Nancy Leigh Thompson

My work is informed by a sense of interior spiritual landscape and by nature and art history.  As I paint, I’m responding to color and gestural marks on the surface. In the process of exploring paint, covering and uncovering, deeper images, spiritual themes and narratives, boldness and subtlety emerge; it often feels like a free dance and sometimes it feels like a battle or like digging for treasure.

 

I like to push the dialogue of what lies on the surface with the nuance that is layered underneath. It makes me think of the seen and unseen in life, what’s of nature and what’s of spirit, what is opaque, what is transparent, and what remains hidden.

 

Painting for me enters the space where the eyes of the soul and spirit collide and new expressions and revelations in the creative journey are found and let loose.
