Nancy Leigh Thompson studied painting at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland and earned a BFA with distinction in General Fine Arts. She has lived in Maine and Wisconsin, as well as Chicago, her native city, where she worked at Branca Inc., an interior design firm and gallery.

The Boston area became her home in 1987, when she moved from Chicago and began the decorative painting business “Nancy Leigh, Artist for Interiors”, which provided painted furniture, murals, fine art and painted fabrics to interior design clients in Boston. When Nancy moved to Lincoln, Massachusetts with her husband and two sons in 2002, she returned to the world of painting more abstract and personal work and the influences of the Bay Area Figurative Movement and Gestural Abstraction. The drama of the New England landscape and years of master classes with Elizabeth DaCosta Ahern, a student of Helen Frankenthaler, have been major sources of her inspiration.
